Sábato medita en voz alta, con ácida filosofía, al tiempo que repasa su vida en unas “Memorias” inolvidablemente lúcidas.
En las comunidades indígenas, los hechos esenciales de la existencia estaban vinculados al ritmo del cosmos y la naturaleza. Y aún hoy, muchos de ellos conservan sus ritos, como los mapuches, que se preparan para recibir el Año Nuevo con ceremonias acompañadas de danzas y oraciones en las que ruegan a los dioses para que les den salud y buenos augurios, para que el año que comienza sea óptimo en lluvias y cosechas. En cambio, los ritos y las tradiciones de nuestras sociedades se han desvirtuado o se han convertido en simulacros en los que ya nadie cree, consecuencia del barbarismo tecnológico.
Escindido el pensamiento mágico y el pensamiento lógico, el hombre quedó exiliado de su unidad primigenia; se quebró para siempre la armonía entre el hombre consigo mismo y con el cosmos.
La humanidad ha recibido una naturaleza donde cada elemento es único y diferente. Unicas y diferentes son todas las nubes que hemos contemplado en la vida, las manos de los hombres y la forma y el tamaño de las hojas, los ríos, los vientos, los animales. Ningún animal fue idéntico a otro. Todo hombre fue misteriosa y sagradamente único.
Ahora, el hombre está al borde de convertirse en un clon por encargo: ojos celestes, simpático, emprendedor, insensible al dolor o, trágicamente, preparado para ser esclavo. Engranajes de una máquina, factores de un sistema, ¡qué lejos de cuando los hombres se sentían hijos de los Dioses!
